What impact does Bollywood have on your life? Has it changed you somehow? (Discussion)

I would say many Bollywood movies can definitely inspire people to become a better human being.

How Bollywood affected me:
  • Indian food is regularly on my menu
  • I learnt also some Hindi
  • I learned more about Indian culture
  • I got married to an Indian man
  • I learnt to put family first and then career
  • I replaced my favourite actors such as Harrison Ford, Nicholas Cage and Tom Cruise with Indian actors (see who exactly on page……)
  • I improved the relationship to my husband even more.
  • I’m nicer to people.

If you are interested in knowing how other Germans perceive Bollywood and what impact it had on their life, read the following. I’ve seen it on a German website some months ago, unfortunately they had to close down recently due to some legal issues.

There are Germans who after watching Bollywood movies are:

    • replacing the wallpaper pictures on the computer with pictures of Bollywood stars
    • spreading the word to their loved ones saying how great the movies are
    • considering Bollywood as their new Hollywood
    • thinking about things which haven’t been noticed before in a different way
    • becoming also fans of India
    • willing to do something for the people in India to support them
    • decorating their room in Indian style
    • listening to Indian songs only
    • feeling simply happier
    • turning their life into a more positive one
    • thinking differently when it comes to love
    • looking forward of getting home to watch another new film release
    • after six years of being online finally learnt how to chat with other Bollywood fans
    • are able to show emotions more openly which was difficult in the past
    • collecting DVDs, pictures, CDs and Saris
    • learning how to cry which never happened in an Hollywood movie
    • becoming more sensitive
    • having finally found a great hobby
    • wanting to learn Hindi
    • shifting the addiction from Hollywood to Bollywood
    • convinced that true love can really exist
    • now respecting people more then they did in the past
    • helping people if in trouble
    • changing their attire to look more attractive
    • listening to their heart rather than reason
    • learning more about foreign cultures and being more open-minded
    • considering life more beautiful
    • filling the gap of a missing partner’s kisses and hugs
    • becoming more aware and noticing more often Indian stuff on a daily basis
    • improving their English due to the subtitles
    • finding new friends through the internet
    • smiling more frequently
    • loving life much more and having more fun
    • loving black hair women rather than blond ones
    • becoming a fan of Indian food/jewellery and garments
    • being used to collect stamps, while now saris are being collected
    • getting to know new interesting like-minded people
    • feeling inspired by dancing.

I remember one Bollywood fan in a discussion forum (name: Mona, Srk4Ever) said: “Once I feel really down no one else than Shah Rukh Khan is able to make me believe that in the world there are also good and nice things, that there is always someone there who relies on you and loves you. After watching a movie or listening to a song I’m full of life and confidence again. I can start the day happily and enjoy myself.” I would say SRK could feel quite flattered by such a statement.

Another internet user expressed himself like this: “It’s like a wave that carries you away, that you can’t stop. It completely involves you.”

Just one lady’s life hasn’t changed since watching Bollywood movies due to her parents who told her “Stop living in a dream world which doesn’t exist, in real life everything is different.”
